This ITUP Fact Sheet underscores the urgent need for equitable access to behavioral health services for California’s justice-involved population, which faces high rates of untreated mental health issues.
The California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) Justice-Involved Initiative seeks to provide vital support for recovery and reintegration. Latinx and Black Californians disproportionately suffer from systemic inequities in the justice system, exacerbated by poverty, limited resources, and access to health care. Addressing these disparities is essential for breaking the cycle of incarceration and mental illness, and ultimately improving health outcomes for all Californians.
