Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Just as California led the nation in establishing the first state health insurance exchange following the passage of the Affordable Care Act, today’s expansion of the Medi-Cal program brings the state one step closer to near universal coverage in 2014. As the state with the largest number of uninsured residents, state leadership has worked tirelessly to ensure that California fully benefits from the sweeping reforms in the ACA. The Insure the Uninsured Project (ITUP) thanks the efforts of the Legislature, the Governor, and the various stakeholders who advocate on behalf of the millions of underserved Californians who will now gain the peace of mind that comes with health coverage.
California has led the nation in its innovative policy approaches to serve the uninsured. California’s forward thinking and swift leadership in implementing the ACA will enable millions of uninsured and insured Californians to receive better care and improved health at a lower cost. As expanding Medi-Cal and opening Covered California for enrollment are on a fast track to January 2014, Californians can rest assured that its state leaders are thoughtfully expanding coverage for its residents.
With expanded insurance coverage and increased consumer access to the health care system on the horizon, we thank you for your dedication, hard work, and leadership to ensure the health and wellbeing of every Californian.
