Health Care Programs for California Immigrants (Updated)

July 19, 2019

This ITUP fact sheet reviews existing health care programs for immigrants in California. California generally provides better access to health care coverage for immigrants than most other states, including covering all children in Medi-Cal regardless of immigration status.

Still, undocumented adults are the largest group of California’s remaining uninsured. State policymakers are currently considering 2019-20 budget proposals to extend coverage to at least some undocumented adults.

Maintaining and expanding health coverage options for immigrants will be essential to achieving universal coverage in California.
